Our Mission is to encourage intellectual honesty in contemporary dialogue by revealing the prevalence of human tendencies toward emotion-driven thinking, the hidden costs of acting upon the flawed assumptions that result, and by illustrating that science, reason and evidence-based action are the best path to optimizing the “greater good” for all.To support our mission, we must: ü Create awareness of our responsibility as free citizens to think critically and reason logically in an environment that tends to encourage the opposite – emotion-driven thinking. ü Create awareness about the frailty of human reasoning, and the prevalence of myths in conventional wisdom. ü Point out the pitfalls of emotion-driven thinking, and the damage it causes us as individuals, and as a society. ü Provide an entertaining look at human nature, and the fallibility of conventional wisdom. ü Provide some perspective on life’s real joys and dangers. ü Encourage and promote the use of data and the scientific method to pursue truth as the ultimate goal. ü Help us recognize that none of us has perfect knowledge, and that imperfect knowledge weakens us. ü Provide simple techniques to change the way we think when addressing future problems, both in society and in our own lives. ü Remind us of the real price paid for our freedom, so easily taken for granted, and the fact that with our freedoms comes a responsibility to contribute. ü Open our minds and hearts – not in mindless tolerance, but in the pursuit of the ideal of truth, as elusive as it will always be. To do all of the above in a fun, entertaining, positive, inspirational, emotionally impactful way.
