Feeling open-minded?Just to illustrate how little we really know sometimes, below is a link to an interview with a gentleman I heard speak recently (at TAM III) who certainly has some interesting points - points I'd never see in my local paper (which doesn't make him right, or wrong). Since we're opening our minds here, I thought I'd post a couple links about him. Christopher Hitchens is a former writer for The Nation and a current contributor to several leading publications, including Vanity Fair and the New Yorker. He is of a Marxist, humanist leaning today. He is also clearly "pro" war on terror, and speaks candidly of his clash with his Leftist friends on this issue. Right or wrong on the topic (who am I to say for sure), his controversial stands on many issues could still have him in the running for our courage award here at truth-driven thinking. My sense from his varied, humanist views is that he is consistently intellectually honest if nothing else - which would explain the controversial situations in which he finds himself. Seems honesty will always get you in trouble when you stumble across dearly held emotion-driven views. Gotta love it. (A link to a bio at www.en.wikipedia.org) I'll tell you this, like most things in my ignorant, Midwestern U.S. life, the more I learn about Islam, jihad, and terror - the less I know! This is a complex issue. But here is a Marxist's view you won't hear often. Have a look at this article on Frontpagemag.com: http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=11241 Lest you think this is a right-wing propagandist page, have a look at this Slate article about Ronald Reagan, titled "Not Even a Hedgehog - The stupidity of Ronald Reagan" (by Christopher Hitchens): |
