Diana seemed very nice. I always like to hear from people who are passionate about something, though the whole idea is a little "touchy" for me. Over all, on the subject of a World Unity Flag, I guess I'd like to say "hmmmm"
Hoping to read some actual thoughts from others? |

Just a quick "thanks" to BMckenzie. Liked and appreciate your response and comments. I also appreciate you confirming for me that there would be forum members who could articulate their thoughts better than "hmmmmm" . |

I agree with McKenzie and probably won't be much more articulate than Tim's first thoughts. But here's a stab. She sounded like a nice person who meant well. I can't say I really disagreed with anything she said. I think we should try to bring people all over the world together on common values. The struggle for me is when people start with common values and then pack in their particular perspectives.
I think that its a good thing to bring together various cultural perspectives, but I think that involves some trade offs. I think to do that you have to find space on the map between the cultural camps. What we call "multi-cultural" now is a "counter-culture" camp to many people. The flag seems to me too looks more like a "counter culture" symbol than a representation of the world today. I'm no art critic so I might not know what I'm talking about. My overall feelings (and I got no facts just feelings) were that it was more about educating the less enlightened and pushing an agenda then I might hope. Would they truly welcome someone that thought for example the best way to help the poor was through market economies? _________________ RPS |

Thanks RPS, I think that's one of the most fair assessments yet. Clearly I can't speculate on what it might or might not be in practice, but I liked the idea at its face--and enjoyed pushing peoples buttons a bit. Agree with you about multi-cultural agendas in practice, but in fairness I found Diana to be quite genuine and lacking of any agenda (but what do I know). Good comments. _________________ Steve Gibson,
